London based Julia Palmer recently completed a luxury villa in Mallorca. The overall plot size of the property, including gardens, is 1350 sq m with the built area stretching 530 sq m (5,700 sq ft) across the plot, allowing the owners to enjoy the 180 degree over the bay throughout the day to sunset.

She defined the large double height space of the villa and reconfigure the bedroom arrangement and general arrangement of the villa. The existing space was tired with no defined spaces or grounding, which had dramatic architectural lighting highlighting the empty space. The south facing property suffered an in balance of light no windows on the north side of the property meant the light and magnificent view was so overpowering to the property the client was overwhelmed on how to compensate this drama. Convex mirrors and placement of fixtures and fittings were used to bounce the reflection of the architecture and light back across the space, bringing the outside in and the inside out.
California’s Cliff House with Private Beach by Developer and Architect of Southern California
Charmed since it first took shape on the high cliffs of Laguna Beach nearly a century ago, the incomparable Villa Rockledge was the vision of Frank A. Miller and Arthur Benton, the developer and architect of Southern California’s famous Mission Inn resort in Riverside. Built on a spectacular site Miller had owned since 1887, the estate was created as a gift to his wife, Marion. He called it Mariona.

The main house features 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms, 9 fireplaces, 2 kitchens, 2 balconies and 2 libraries. Almost every part of this stunning residence is created by hand — from the thick cement foundations and retaining walls to the rustic stone towers, large open oceanside porches and ornamental chimneys. Each leaded glass casement window, heavy beam, hand-sanded mahogany floor, wrought iron railing and masterpiece timework was alike. Villa Rockledge is on the National Registry of Historic Places.
